Maintenance of the Agave
Usually you would have mayan crews go in and weed around the agave plands maybe 4 times a year, depending upon the amount of the rain that year. During the rainy summer season the weeds can cover the young plants in a few weeks. The mayans use two tools to do the weeding: a machete and also a koa. The koa is a much shorter tool with a curved end to you can hook small plants with a much smaller swing than the machete. The mayans carry their files and keep their tools very sharp. This is very rough ground but they have been working this land their whole lives using machetes.
